The Man of Law is so well-versed in the law that he has managed to make many land and other transactions work entirely to his benefit. He made himself seem endlessly busy in the courts, and his understanding of English case law and statutes is formidable.

The Franklin, who travels with the Man of Law, enjoys the finer things in life, like food and drink: his house was known for serving copious quantities of the best fish, meat, and wine in the countryside. He liked nothing better than to preside over a table full of diners. Like the Prioress, he is fastidious in keeping food off his face and out of his clothing.
