Of Mice and Men Slim

Slim is one of the more respectable ranch hands due to the capacity for empathy he illustrates throughout the novel. Slim initially cannot comprehend why George and Lennie travel together—he’d never seen anything of the kind. However, as he becomes acquainted with the two men, he realizes that George has made many sacrifices in order to care for Lennie. Slim, too, shows kindness towards Lennie by giving him a puppy to care for. In the end, Slim is the only man who understands the events that transpired leading up to Lennie’s death, and he is seen attempting to console George in the novel’s final pages.
